All of my books have received a new cover for fall 2025! What do you think?
Random "Author Interview" Questions:
Q: How do you develop your plot and characters?
Em: I once said that me writing a book is like throwing a party just to see who shows up. My writing style is based on 'what if?' That's it. What if this happens to this person and then this huge thing happens and then what if this person shows up and then this person is over here and then what if.... When I develop a new novel, something out there has given me a curious 'what if?' and then I start writing with that in mind. Once the characters start coming in, I just write and I meet the character as they develop. I wish I could say I sit down and plan it out, writing a chapter by chapter synopsis of where I want it go but, that's not me. If I force a direction, my characters stop talking to me and don't listen at all until I go their way. But it's how I've always written and I'm used to it. Will my style work for everyone? Nope. Not at all. You just have to find your way by trial and error.
Q: What part of the Allegheny Chronicles series is the hardest to write?
Em: The endings. I'm never sure if there is supposed to be more to each particular book or if it should be divided into two. Sometimes they talk so much to me that I was only hoping to do around a 275 page book but then I get 500 pages however if I divide it in half, the first part is abruptly ended and the second part needs a recap. I guess you can say I just don't want the books to end.
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Em: For being a mom, I'd like to have the Mary Poppins energy and that bag of hers! Plus I'd add in healing powers, which is good for having with adventurous kids. For being an author, I'd love to have a superpower that makes people buy, read, review, and gush about my books to everyone and then have movies and TV series made because they are just overwhelmingly popular (and then have the movies and TV series mirror the books perfectly because they already masterpieces? Ah, heaven!) And maybe direct access to my character Brian Ridley from Portrait of an Unlikely Affair for historical research assistance. Yeah, I could go for that right about now as success and a researcher who knows everything historically about all areas would be amazing at this point. Essentially I just want the superpower to make everything I do a total success. But I think, ultimately, at this moment, on this day, I'd totally settle for the superpower to have the dishes and laundry do themselves, the house to instantly clean and maintain itself so I can spend more time doing other things in life, and maybe the meals planning and making themselves to perfection when they are needed the most. It's a mom thing I guess.
Eden Halifax Magnuss lost her husband in a military helicopter crash while he was deployed overseas. Just before the seventh anniversary of her husband's death, she is chosen for a seemingly easy assignment to 'babysit' a teen prodigy while he receives training with a mysterious mentor known only as "the Alchemist," a solitary figure who is only spoken of in rumors at work.
Eden is warned of the Alchemist's cantankerous manner, but is told that the Alchemist may hold the answers to the crash that killed her husband. But what could a mystical mountain dwelling hermit possibly know about something that happened a world away from him?
Eden's adventure into the strange world of the Alchemist is just the beginning of an unexpected journey of a lifetime.
You were first introduced to him in the short story collection "Could've Been Something" with the story "One Hell of a Best Seller," now learn the story behind Mason.
Marine Corps veteran Mason Beaudrie is just trying to quietly live his life, stuck in the 'friendzone' with the girl of his dreams, his best friend Gia Bennington. He'd not classify his life as perfect but it works for him. He has a good job he doesn't mind, a live-in girlfriend who seems to hate him, inner demons he is quietly battling, and a past he wants to forget. With the the help of his family, he is managing to make it through each day.
The Beaudrie Family has lived in Veil Falls for generations. In fact, their ancestors were in the area hundreds of years before the town even existed. They are the oldest family in Cooper County, as well as the largest landholder. Yet the family of ranchers live a modest life steeped in tradition, heritage, and hard-work. Half of Cooper County has no problems with them. The other half, however, including his best friend's family, the Benningtons, does have issues with them. The Benningtons are among the founders of the town of Veil Falls and are considered the political and business powers of the county. They believe the Beaudries are shrouded in mysteries, black magic, and are practicing devils based on an encounter over a century before.
The status quo changes when Gia, a mystery author, decides to pen a smut romance novel and needs to start dating in order to do research. Knowing Gia is clueless to his feelings for her, Mason's life begins to further detangle until a simple random meeting changes direction for both Mason and Gia. However, this is Veil Falls and the direction is not met with open arms. When an unexpected series of events take place, Mason's job as a deputy sheriff puts him in the spotlight and garners him unwanted attention. His quiet existence is thrown upside down and the past he was trying to forget collides with his present.
All hell is about to break loose in Mason's life, and only Allegheny and its Ghost Team can give him what he needs to survive what's coming for him.
The Allegheny Chronicles:
The Warrior Returns
Allegheny and its Ghost Team have a new mystery to solve -- One that includes their own past. When the Ghost Team welcomed Mason "Wraith" Beaudrie into its ranks, they knew he was powerful but they didn't realize he would be the one who would hold the answers they were looking for.
While it seems that Mason has a knack for attracting trouble and people who want him dead, the former Marine and sheriff deputy is going through a personal upheaval. His grandfather's last words to him was that he foreseen Mason as the "Warrior," a legend that had been told around the campfire for generations by the elders. However, there seems to be a lot of mystery and misinformation from Mason's family when he looks for answers. What does being the "warrior" mean and is there any truth to the history of the clans? Why wasn't Mason told these stories when he was younger? As Mason attempts to put those questions behind him, his fiancée, Gia Bennington, has been whisked away by her mother's family after her own traumatic kidnapping ordeal. Everyone is telling Mason to be patient and give her space, and Mason has no choice -- After all, he is looking to take down his former commanding officer and get justice for his own team that had been left behind to die in Operation Dragon Fire.
While the Alchemist and the Reaper were looking to develop the skills of the Ghost Team's trainee, they are instead swept into an ancient mystery which includes a not-so-new enemy that is hellbent on their destruction. They have met this enemy on the battlefield many times and are now putting together the pieces as to who this enemy is and how they can gain victory against them. Not one of them can win this war alone and it will take a united Ghost Team with the weight of Allegheny behind them to do it.
It will be a race to discover the past and reunite the clans so that they can vanquish the enemy that walks among them.
Sometimes we can choose what we lose, sometimes it is beyond our control.
In Veil Falls, Gia Bennington had definite plans for a future with Mason Beaudrie. But after Mason’s job places Gia in danger—twice—her parents decide on a very different path for her, one that doesn’t include Mason. Gia is whisked away to Europe against her will, where the life she hoped to escape awaits her. There she faces secrets, fairy tales, an arranged marriage, and a deadly enemy intent on destroying her and her family.
Her family insists her future is non-negotiable. Still, Gia believes she belongs with Mason—until fate intervenes, cutting her off from everything she knows. As a mysterious foe begins to target her directly, Gia’s family brings in Remi Chappelle, a French Army veteran, to be her constant protector. The further she drifts from Mason, Veil Falls, and the future she wants, the more she hopes to break free from her family’s control and return to him. But will Mason ever understand why she disappeared and broke off their engagement? Or will fate take him from her?
The Healer is the fourth installment in The Allegheny Chronicles series, but is set to occur concurrently with book three, The Warrior’s Return.
This continues the series with a mix of clean romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy.
